Description
A classic French dish that combines the rich flavors of garlic with a hearty broth, served with crusty bread for dipping.
Ingredients
- 1 head of garlic
- 4 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of crusty bread
- Grated cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Slice the top off the head of garlic and drizzle with olive oil.
- Wrap the garlic in foil and roast in the oven for about 30 minutes.
- In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
- Add the roasted garlic (squeezed out of the skin) and thyme to the pot.
- Pour in the broth and bring to a simmer for 15 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot with crusty bread, optionally topped with grated cheese.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth.
- Adjust the amount of garlic based on your preference for garlic flavor.
- Can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
