Description
A classic Italian dessert made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cream.
Ingredients
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfingers
- Cocoa powder for dusting
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
- Heat milk in a saucepan until just boiling, then slowly whisk into the egg mixture.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Fold mascarpone cheese into the cooled egg mixture, then gently fold in the whipped cream.
- In a shallow dish, combine coffee and coffee liqueur.
- Dip ladyfingers into the coffee mixture briefly, then layer them in a dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
Notes
- For a stronger coffee flavor, use espresso instead of brewed coffee.
- Make sure not to soak the ladyfingers too long in the coffee mixture.
- Can be made a day in advance for better flavor.
