Description

A delicious Southern-style casserole made with sweet potatoes and a rich maple syrup topping, perfect for holiday gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups sweet potatoes, mashed
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, maple syrup, brown sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  4. Pour the sweet potato mixture into a greased baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the chopped pecans with melted butter and sprinkle over the sweet potato mixture.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
  7. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute eggs with flaxseed meal and use plant-based milk.
  • Can be prepared a day in advance and baked before serving.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup according to taste.
