Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices of cheese (American or Swiss)
- 4 slices of bread (rye or sourdough)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and sauté the sliced onions until caramelized.
- In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to create the secret sauce.
- Form the ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook the patties in the skillet over medium-high heat until browned and cooked to your desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover until melted.
- Spread the secret sauce on one side of each slice of bread.
- Assemble the melts by placing a patty with cheese on a slice of bread, topping it with caramelized onions, and then closing with another slice of bread.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter and grill the sandwiches until golden brown on both sides.
- Slice in half and serve hot.

- Feel free to customize the toppings with lettuce, tomato, or pickles.
