Ingredients
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup white wine
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 baguette, sliced
- 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and sugar, cooking until the onions are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Pour in the white wine and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Add the beef broth, salt, and pepper, and bring to a simmer.
- While the soup simmers, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven until golden brown.
- Once the soup is ready, ladle it into bowls, top with toasted baguette slices, and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
- Broil the bowls in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
