Description
A delightful homemade peppermint nougat candy that combines the sweetness of nougat with a refreshing peppermint flavor, perfect for holiday treats or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 egg whites
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 cup chocolate chips (for coating)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat until the mixture reaches 240°F (soft ball stage).
- While the sugar mixture is cooking, beat the egg whites in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form.
- Once the sugar mixture reaches the desired temperature, slowly pour it into the beaten egg whites while continuing to beat.
- Add peppermint extract and salt, and mix until well combined.
- If using, fold in the chopped nuts.
- Spread the nougat mixture into a greased pan and let it cool completely.
- Once cooled, cut into squares and dip in melted chocolate to coat.
- Allow the chocolate to set before serving.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
- For a stronger peppermint flavor, increase the amount of peppermint extract.
- Feel free to experiment with different types of nuts or add dried fruits.
