Description

A unique and delicious twist on traditional French onion soup, this pizza combines caramelized onions, gooey cheese, and a savory broth for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Fresh thyme for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
  4. Add the beef broth to the skillet and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface and transfer it to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  6. Spread the caramelized onion mixture evenly over the pizza dough.
  7. Top with Gruyère and mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh thyme before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute vegetable broth for beef broth.
