Delicious and fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with apple butter, perfect for a cozy breakfast.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
- 1-2 tbsp milk (for icing)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter, egg, salt, and cinnamon to the yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread apple butter evenly over the surface.
- Roll the dough tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Mix powdered sugar with milk to create icing and drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of white sugar.
- Feel free to add chopped nuts or raisins for extra texture.
- These rolls can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator overnight before baking.
