Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 egg

- Red food coloring
- Crushed candy canes for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Divide the dough in half; to one half, add peppermint extract and red food coloring.
- Roll out small pieces of each dough into ropes and twist them together to form candy cane shapes.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top while still warm.
